Extending previous session downward, the US currency declined further against its South African counterpart in New York trading on Wednesday. The dollar, which closed Tuesday's North American session at 6.8537 versus the rand, dropped to more than 2 1/2 -year low of 6.7950 as of 12:45 pm ET. At present, the pair is worth 6.7973.
