During New York trading on Thursday, the US dollar edged up against the South African rand. The dollar, which closed Wednesday's New York session at 7.7884 versus the rand, soared to a new multi-month high of 8.0300 by about 12:40 pm ET. Thereafter, the pair reversed its direction and currently trading near 7.8963.
