The U.S. Federal Open Market Committee announced its interest rate decision at 2:15 pm ET Tuesday. The FOMC reported that it has decided to leave interest rates unchanged at zero to 0.25 percent. After the report, the dollar edged down against the South African rand and fell to 7.1839 by about 2:25 pm ET from early morning session's 5-day high of 7.2925. As of now, the pair is worth 7.1940.
