Markit Economics and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, or CIPS, is due to release the results of its August construction sector activity report for the U.K. at 4:30 am ET Wednesday. The construction PMI is expected to edge up to 57.5 in August from 57.1 in July.

Ahead of the data, the pound showed mixed trading against its major rivals. While the pound fell against the U.S. dollar, it rose against the Swiss franc. Against the euro and the yen, the pound held steady.

As of 4:25 am ET, the pound was trading at 0.7368 against the euro, 1.5279 against the U.S. dollar, 1.4731 against the Swiss franc and 183.36 against the yen.
