Stocks in the Nordic region rose Friday, with the OMX Nordic 40 Index rising 0.3%.

Bavarian Nordic A/S was the biggest leader during the session, gaining 5.2%, and Modern Times Group MTG AB Cl A rose 4.2%. Norsk Hydro ASA rounded out the top three leaders on Friday, with shares adding 4.1%.

Nolato AB Series B posted the largest decline, dropping 5.1%, followed by NEL ASA shares, which dropped 3.3%. Shares of SalMar ASA dropped 3.2%.

In Denmark, the OMX Copenhagen 20 Index dropped 0.2%, while the OMX Helsinki 25 Index, which tracks Finland's most-traded stocks, increased 1.0%.

Stocks on Sweden's OMX Stockholm 30 Index gained 0.1%, and Norway's Oslo Exchange Benchmark Index_GI rose 0.2%. Shares in Iceland decreased, with the OMX Iceland All-Share PI Equity Index declining 0.3%.

Elsewhere in Europe, indexes were mixed, with the STOXX Europe 600 Index adding 0.1% and the FTSE 100 Index flat from the previous close.

Stock indexes in Asia were mixed, with Japan's NIKKEI 225 Index up 0.1% and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 0.1%.

In commodities news, Brent crude oil futures were down 0.1%, while gold futures were up 0.7%. Bitcoin slipped 0.8% to $43,646.

On the currency front, the WSJ Dollar Index held steady at 96.26.

Against the euro, the Swedish krona was up 0.6%, the Norwegian krone was up 0.5%, the Danish krone was flat, the U.S. dollar was flat, and the Icelandic krona was down 0.2%.
