Stocks in the Nordic region gained Friday, with the OMX Nordic 40 Index rising 1.0%.

Catena AB was the biggest leader during the session, increasing 5.7%, and International Petroleum Corp. increased 5.5%. Nyfosa AB rounded out the top three leaders on Friday, with shares increasing 4.9%.

Autostore Holdings Ltd. posted the largest decline, dropping 4.7%, followed by Biotage AB shares, which dropped 4.6%. Shares of Vitec Software Group AB Series B dropped 3.9%.

In Denmark, the OMX Copenhagen 20 Index gained 0.3%, and the OMX Helsinki 25 Index, which tracks Finland's most-traded stocks, increased 0.9%.

Stocks on Sweden's OMX Stockholm 30 Index increased 0.8%, and Norway's Oslo Exchange Benchmark Index_GI was flat at 1,304.37. Shares in Iceland increased, with the OMX Iceland All-Share PI Equity Index increasing 1.6%.

Elsewhere in Europe, indexes rose, with the STOXX Europe 600 Index rising 1.0% and the FTSE 100 Index adding 1.0% from the previous close.

Stock indexes in Asia were mixed, with Japan's NIKKEI 225 Index down 0.2% and China's Shanghai Composite Index up 0.1%.

In commodities news, Brent crude oil futures were unchanged, and gold futures were up 1.1%. Bitcoin rose 1.9% to $38,341.

On the currency front, the WSJ Dollar Index fell 0.4% to 97.64.

Against the euro, the Norwegian krone was up 1.4%, the Swedish krona was up 1.3%, the U.S. dollar was up 0.1%, the Danish krone was flat, and the Icelandic krona was down 0.3%.
