Stocks in the Nordic region gained Monday, with the OMX Nordic 40 Index rising 0.6%.

Frontline PLC was the biggest leader during the session, rising 7.0%, and Hoegh Autoliners ASA increased 5.9%. Europris ASA rounded out the top three leaders on Monday, with shares increasing 5.7%.

HMS Networks AB posted the largest decline, dropping 5.6%, followed by Nordnet AB shares, which declined 5.2%. Shares of Embracer Group AB Series B declined 5.1%.

In Denmark, the OMX Copenhagen 20 Index increased 1.2%, and the OMX Helsinki 25 Index, which tracks Finland's most-traded stocks, rose 0.2%.

Stocks on Sweden's OMX Stockholm 30 Index dropped 0.5%, while Norway's Oslo Exchange Benchmark Index_GI gained 1.0%. Shares in Iceland increased, with the OMX Iceland All-Share PI Equity Index rising 0.7%.

Elsewhere in Europe, indexes were mixed, with the STOXX Europe 600 Index declining 0.3% and the FTSE 100 Index adding 0.5% from the previous close.

Stock indexes in Asia were down, with Japan's NIKKEI 225 Index dropping 0.6% and China's Shanghai Composite Index falling 0.4%.

In commodities news, Brent crude oil futures were up 2.5%, and gold futures were unchanged. Bitcoin fell 0.8% to $41,571.

On the currency front, the WSJ Dollar Index increased 0.1% to 96.90.

Against the euro, the Norwegian krone was up 0.3%, the Swedish krona was up 0.2%, the Danish krone was flat, the Icelandic krona was down 0.1%, and the U.S. dollar was down 0.3%.
