                         Scipher plc ("the Company") 
                            Holding in Company

The Company was notified on 20 August 2003 by Gartmore Investment Limited 
("Gartmore") that as a result of a disposal of 1,000,000 ordinary 1p shares in 
the Company ("Ordinary Shares") on 14 August 2003 Gartmore's client and the 
registered holder, Vidacos Nominees Ltd A/C 1945 ("Vidacos"), no longer has a 
notifiable interest in the issued Ordinary Share capital of the Company.

Following this disposal Vidacos is currently interested in 6,900,000 Ordinary 
Shares representing 2.66 per cent. of the Company's issued Ordinary Share 
capital. The beneficial owner is Alphagen Volantis Fd Prime Brokerage.
