KVUE-TV's Patti Smith Named 'Broadcaster of the Year' By Texas
Association of Broadcasters
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Patti Smith, vice president and general
manager of Austin's KVUE-TV, has been named the 2004 "Broadcaster of the Year"
by the Texas Association of Broadcasters. Smith received the honor on Thursday
night at the TAB's annual awards gala at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Austin.
The gala was part of TAB's 51st Annual Convention and Trade Show.
The "Broadcaster of the Year" award is presented to an owner or full-time
employee of a TAB member television or radio station. The award honors an
individual who has made a commitment to excellence over the past year and is an
example to others in broadcasting. Smith, a Belo executive since 1999, is
currently TAB vice president.

Smith Career Highlights
* Smith has been a Texas broadcaster for nearly 30 years. Prior station
affiliations include KTBC-TV Austin, KGBT-TV Harlingen and KVEO-TV Rio
Grande Valley. Since 1975, Smith has been an operations manager,
account executive, sales manager, creative sales director, news
director and general manager.
* At KTBC-TV, Smith was the first woman ever to direct a newscast in
Austin.
* Smith joined Belo as vice president and general manager of KVUE-TV in
June 1999.
* Under Smith's leadership, KVUE-TV was awarded NAB's highest community
service award, the Service to America Television Award, in 2002.
* Also under her leadership, KVUE-TV's news department was profiled by
RTNDA in its Communicator Magazine for the station's commitment to
community service and diversity.
* Smith is TAB's vice president, chaired the Convention Planning
Committee for the past three years, heads the Non-Commercial Sustaining
Announcement (NCSA) Committee and spearheaded the Texas Broadcast
History DVD project for TAB's 50th Anniversary celebration.
* Smith also serves on many community boards and local charities,
including the American Red Cross, Crime Stoppers, American Women in
Radio & TV and the Women's Chamber of Commerce.
