The German air force said Monday that two of its combat jets collided over Germany, killing one pilot.
Both pilots ejected, the air force said via Twitter. One pilot was found alive and was being treated, the air force said, and the other didn't survive.
The midair collision involved two unarmed Eurofighter Typhoon combat planes, made by a consortium of Airbus SE (AIR.FR), BAE Systems PLC (BA.LN) and Leonardo SpA (LDO.MI). The planes were accompanied by a third Eurofighter, which witnessed the crash and reported seeing two parachuted from the ejected pilots.
Local fire fighters battled flames on the ground where the wreckage of the two planes went down, police said.
The air force said it is investigating the crash, which occurred near Laage in eastern Germany. All Typhoons were stationed at an air base in the area.
