                                Activity Update



The Company announces that the extended option over 5 per cent of Olympic Peru
Inc ("Olympic") has been allowed to lapse.



Negotiations are ongoing with Caribbean Pacific Energy Corporation, and Olympic
with a view to Northern acquiring a larger percentage in, and a further option
over Olympic and the companies which own the gas treatment, distribution and
marketing activities.



Derek Musgrove, Managing Director of Northern stated



"I am pleased that we are able to expand the size of the participation under
discussion and am particularly happy at the positive relationship that is being
developed between the parties.



Furthermore, I am pleased to note that Ramco, in which Northern has a
significant investment, commented yesterday in its preliminary results, that the
Seven Heads Gas Project recently tested the development well 48/23-6  in excess
of 34.3 mmscfd, which is substantially better than its previous expectations.
Ramco also announced that it expects first gas production from Seven Heads
before the end of the year."
