Broadcast Veteran Steve Edwards to be Honored With Star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Emmy Award-winning
television personality Steve Edwards will be honored with the 2,255th star on
the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star will be unveiled on Friday,
May 14, at 6150 Hollywood Boulevard (corner of El Centro Avenue) at 9:15 a.m.
(PDT) during a live broadcast of the top-rated, daily news and entertainment
magazine show, "Good Day Live," which Edwards co-hosts with Dorothy Lucey and
Jillian Barberie. This will mark the first time a TV show has done a live
broadcast on the famous walk. Just as he spends his weekdays on the local Emmy
Award-winning ("Best Daytime Newscast" -- 1999, 2001, 2003) "Good Day LA"
(KTTV) and its national spin-off, "Good Day Live" (Twentieth Television),
Edwards' star is appropriately situated between two ladies on the famous walk
-- actresses Jeanie MacPherson and Mary Boland.
Johnny Grant, Honorary Mayor of Hollywood and chairman of the Walk of Fame
Committee, will preside over the event. Special guests attending the ceremony
include Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson ("American Idol"), and George Lopez ("The
George Lopez Show"), among others. In addition, videotaped congratulations from
many of Edwards' celebrity friends including, Jay Leno, Ben Affleck, Hilary
Duff, Jim Carrey, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Missy Elliott, and Simon Cowell,
will be shown during the telecast.
One of LA's premier broadcast personalities, Edwards has been a mainstay on
numerous local television talk shows, including KCAL's "Live in LA" (1993- 94),
KABC-TV's "AM Los Angeles" (1984-91) and KCBS-TV's "Two On The Town" (1978-84)
and "The Steve Edwards Show" (1978-81).
He also co-hosted KABC talk radio's "Sportstalk 790," a three-hour weeknight
broadcast that began in 1994. Edwards joined the station in October 1990 and
hosted a variety of programs, ranging from talk to sports.
In 1984, Edwards joined KABC-TV, the ABC-owned station in Los Angeles, and
hosted the live afternoon talk show 330 in 1984 and ABC's nationally syndicated
program "Hollywood Close-up" in 1985.
Prior to KABC, Edwards worked at KCBS-TV, the CBS-owned station in Los Angeles,
since 1978. In addition to hosting "Two On The Town" and "The Steve Edwards
Show," he served as Entertainment Editor for Channel 2 News, providing reviews,
commentary and special reports on film, television and theater.
From 1982-83, Edwards also co-hosted "Entertainment Tonight" and "Entertainment
This Week" and garnered a national Emmy Award nomination as host.
He has received seven Los Angeles area Emmy Awards during his career for his
work on "Two On The Town" and "The Steve Edwards Show." In addition, the local
Emmy's have recognized his work on "The Baxters," an experimental program
produced by Norman Lear, and "Saturday Morning Fever: The Los Angeles
Marathon."
For more than a decade, Edwards has hosted the Children's Miracle Telethon
benefiting Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He was named Chairman of the LA
Children's Festival at the hospital in 1994 for his continued efforts on their
behalf.
