ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Photonix, Inc. (R) (NYSE Amex: API) announced today that it has received a $2.4 million follow-on order from a major defense prime contractor to deliver products within a 26-month time frame beginning May 2010. The Company expects most of the revenue to be recognized evenly over the next two fiscal years. The products to be supplied for this order include a custom photodiode assembly and optical sensor used for the Navy's Guided Missile Systems. The Guided Missile Weapon System is the world's most modern ship self-defense weapon, and has been specifically designed to provide exceptional protection for multiple ship platforms. This is in support of the Block 2 upgrade to the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Guided Missile Weapon System. RAM Guided Missile Weapon System is co-developed and co-produced under a NATO cooperative program between the United States and Germany. This Missile is a supersonic, light-weight, quick-reaction, fire-and-forget missile designed to destroy anti-ship missiles. Its autonomous dual-mode passive RF-to-IR guidance design, requiring no shipboard support after missile launch, uniquely provides high-firepower capability for engaging multiple threats simultaneously. The Block 2 upgrade will enable the RAM missile to more effectively counter the emerging threat of more maneuverable anti-ship missiles. "We have been supplying these products to this customer for a number of years and we are pleased to provide continued support of this program," commented Richard (Rick) Kurtz, API's CEO. "The RAM Guided Missile Weapon System represents a significant military market legacy design win with a long product lifecycle for our custom optoelectronic solutions product platform."
