Saras SpA (SRS.MI), Italy's second-biggest independent refiner by capacity, said Thursday it is carrying out with Russia's OAO Grazprom Neft (SIB.RS) only preliminary contacts, with the aim of assessing forms of industrial cooperation.
Saras made the statement, following a request from the securities' regulator Consob, after press reports cited a Gazprom Neft official as saying the Russian company was discussing buying assets from the Italian refiner.
Saras said it hasn't received any communication from Gazprom Neft regarding the comments attributed to the official of the Russian energy company.
