Safilo Group SpA (SFL.MI) said Tuesday its board will propose that Robert Polet, former chief executive of Gucci Group NV (GUCG), is appointed chairman.
Safilo, the world's No. 2 eye-wear maker by sales after Luxottica Group SpA (LUX), is seeking to recover from a restructuring that the company undertook last year to reduce its excessive debt. On Tuesday, Safilo reported that it had swung back into the black in the first half of the year, with EUR31.3 million in net profit on EUR603 million in sales.
The company has its own brands such as Carrera and also produces licensed branded collections for Giorgio Armani SpA, Gucci, Valentino and other fashion labels.
Safilo's shareholders will meet Thursday to vote on Polet's likely appointment.
