Eni Starts Building Solar-Power Projects in Pakistan and Tunisia

Eni Spa (ENI.MI) has begun construction on two new solar-power projects in Pakistan and Tunisia, the Italian oil-and gas company said Tuesday.

Eni expects the photovoltaic project in Bhit, Pakistan, to have peak capacity of 10 megawatts. The energy produced there will be used on site, reducing gas consumption and avoiding around 140,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions over the next 10 years, it said.

The Tunisia plant will be built at the company's Adam oil concession and have a peak capacity of 5 megawatts. Eni said the energy produced there will also be used on site, lowering gas consumption and cutting carbon dioxide emissions-equivalent by 6,500 metric tons annually.

Eni said the project, which it expects to complete by the end of 2019, is in line with its commitment to "promote sustainable development in the countries where it operates."

Earlier this year, Eni completed the acquisition of a solar project in Australia and started building its second solar power plant in Italy.

Last year, Eni built a wind farm in Kazakhstan and made an agreement with Algeria's Sonatrach to install and operate solar-power units at production sites in Africa.
