DATATRAK Deploys Oracle(R) Real Application Clusters In Its
Global Data Center
Implementation of Oracle Real Application Clusters is Unique in the EDC Market
and Further Enhances DATATRAK's Scalability and Performance as a Global ASP
CLEVELAND, April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DATATRAK International, Inc.
(Nasdaq: "DATA"), the leading and most experienced Application Service Provider
("ASP") in the Electronic Data Capture ("EDC") industry, today announced they
have placed into production in their global data center in Cleveland the first
international EDC clinical trial utilizing Oracle(R) Real Application Clusters.
Oracle Real Application Clusters is a sophisticated architecture that allows for
the automatic parallel shifting of availability demands across multiple database
servers simultaneously. This new architecture supercedes the functionality of
previous environments using distributed database servers and matches the
exceptional performance and availability of Terminal server clusters.
This unique implementation offers advantages for users because it guarantees
continued rapid response times, even though the sizes of the company's databases
continue to increase as the EDC market expands. This new architecture is timely
with the expected increase in Technology Transfers in 2004 and 2005 which will
result in more users creating their own studies and accessing their own reports
with the DATATRAK EDC(R) Product Suite. A growing number of worldwide users can
cause hundreds of requests for information access to hit a database
simultaneously. Moreover, such requests can be for complex reports that need to
search thousands of patient records quickly. With Oracle Real Application
Clusters, DATATRAK can extend its excellent reputation for outstanding service
and system performance.
This technical advancement also has implications for internal operations and
their associated costs. Oracle Real Application Clusters allows DATATRAK to
further leverage current investments in infrastructure because the load-
balancing automatically modulates database requirements with instantaneous
demand, reducing the need for more hardware and personnel in order to manage
greater amounts of business.
"Oracle Real Application Clusters provides me with a tremendously improved
opportunity to better serve our customers through significant advancements in
serviceability, scalability and availability", stated Jeffrey Cowen, DATATRAK's
Database Administrator.
"We are the most experienced and the leading ASP in the EDC market and this
advancement supports that claim", stated Dr. Jeffrey A. Green, President and
Chief Executive Officer of DATATRAK International, Inc. "The first phrase is
clear as we have been implementing EDC since1993 -- longer than any other
company in this market. The second phrase is supported by the innovative
efforts represented by this announcement. Implementation of this sophisticated
platform by our technical team is unique to this industry and establishes the
foundation to handle large volumes of business with a high degree of service and
availability for our customers."
Green continued, "There are less expensive ways to 'play' this market other than
making the investment of time and money into such advancements, but the
short-cuts eventually catch up with you and then shareholders and customers are
usually left holding the bag. We have never taken that approach, because we
believe this industry should consider its data too important to be trusted to
the lowest bidder. Quality doesn't cost -- it pays. We take our own advice
because we have chosen to invest extensively in systems over the past four years
instead of headcount in order to best manage our growth. As an indication of
this leverage, we have experienced over a 3,500% revenue growth since 1998 and
we have only added in that time two people in our technical services
department."
