Talks broke down between mining giant BHP Billiton and striking workers at Chile's Escondida copper mine Thursday.
In an official statement, BHP Billiton said it had put a final offer to the union on the table. The miner said the offer would be withdrawn after March 28.
"The company hopes that, within the next few days, Union Number 1 will formally accept or reject the offer," BHP said in an official statement. "In either case, the company will, as indicated previously, continue to focus on resuming operations," the miner added.
Thursday marked the 43rd day of strikes at the world's biggest copper mine, making the Escondida action the longest-running Chilean workers dispute in more than 40 years.
