Original Tiger Trap Contestants to Receive Buick Rainiers Nov. 21 DETROIT, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- This time, the extraordinary is expected. On Friday, Nov. 21, the four golfers who were caught in Buick's original Tiger Trap promotion will officially receive the 2004 Buick Rainiers they won in a surprise closest-to-the-pin contest under the intimidating gaze of Tiger Woods last spring. The Florida residents will gather back at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes at 10 a.m. Buick Truck Marketing Director Chris Mazglad will host a small ceremony for the golfers, their families, friends and media to commemorate the incredibly successful program, unveil the Rainiers and hand off keys. Mazglad will also present The Legacy Club with a commemorative plaque for the 12th hole, the hole from which the trap was sprung. The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes is located at 1700 Alaqua Lakes Blvd., Longwood, Fla., 32779. Tiger Trap winners are Mike Freeman, Keith Kemp, Beverly Rettinger and Joe Senecal. "Everything about Buick's Tiger Trap -- the excitement, attention and good will -- has surpassed our expectations," said Mazglad. "We're thrilled that we could introduce the world to Rainier in this way with Tiger, and I'm looking forward to wrapping it up with our wonderful winners and the trucks they earned." According to Mazglad, media coverage of the promotion was huge. ESPN's SportsCenter covered the making of the commercials. Other outlets that covered Tiger Trap include Access Hollywood, USA Today and a host of local television and radio stations. One winner, Mike Freeman, received additional attention after an Orlando Sentinel article reported that he lost his amateur status for accepting the Rainier. Freeman, the 2002 Orlando City champion, can re-apply for amateur status next year. On May 1, 29 amateurs found out how they would perform under the gaze of the world's greatest golfer as part of Buick's "Tiger Trap," the division's biggest marketing effort with Tiger Woods so far. All the action was captured on 13 hidden cameras and was edited into 30-second television commercials. The commercials teased a five-minute film running exclusively on http://www.buick.com/ . After watching the film, visitors to buick.com could register for a chance to compete for a 2004 Buick Rainier. Atlanta's Bill Stapleton won a Rainier in that shootout broadcast live on The Golf Channel Oct. 12. When foursomes came to the 150-yard par 3 12th hole, a mysterious wedge was waiting on the tee box. The golfers inspected the club and found the word "Tiger" etched on the bottom. With that, Tiger himself drove a cart from behind the trees up the cart path to meet the astonished golfers. After introductions, Tiger invited them to participate in a friendly contest: take one shot, and the closest to the pin wins a 2004 Buick Rainier. Most of the golfers didn't believe that they were really playing for a Buick, but they were still understandably anxious. It wasn't until they were on the green together and Tiger pointed out the hidden cameras, camouflaged cameramen, and a tucked-away Rainer that the golfers realized the wager was real. This integrated event was created and managed by Buick's core marketing partners: * Concept, advertising and films: McCann-Erickson Detroit * Promotional: Momentum Detroit * Interactive: i33 * Media buying: GM Planworks. Acclaimed director and skilled amateur golfer Steve Chase staged the "trap" and directed the shoot. More about Rainier The 2004 Buick Rainier offers a level of performance, ride comfort and style that sets it apart from other mid-size sport utility vehicles.
