UPDATE: Conoco's Borger Refinery Shuts Amine Unit For Work

ConocoPhillips (COP) will shut an amine unit at its Borger, Texas, refinery for planned maintenance starting Friday, according to a state regulatory filing.

Unit 11, typically used to strip carbon dioxide and sulfur in a gas-treating process, will be brought down for "routine inspection and repair" that will start at around noon on Oct. 9 and will end on Oct. 24, the company said.

During this process, vessels and lines within the unit will be cleared and feed to the unit "will initially be blocked in, before clearing vessels to storage," the report indicated.

After the vessels are cleared of liquids, vapors and placed in storage tank, they will be swept with hydrogen, nitrogen or steam. Emissions from the amine and sulfur recovery unit, or SRU, will be routed to a control device.

The 146,000-barrel-a-day refinery is a 50-50 joint venture between ConocoPhillips and Encana Corp. (ECA) that was formed in 2007. The two companies evenly split operating results.
