             Capital Radio plc pre-close First Half Trading Update



Capital Radio plc, the UK's leading commercial radio group, today announces a
trading update for the six months ending 31st March 2003, ahead of the interim
results due to be released on 15th May 2003.



In our AGM statement made on 23rd January 2003, we announced that in the October
to December 2002 quarter like for like radio revenue was down 6% against the
same quarter in the previous year.  We anticipate that like for like radio
revenue will have declined by 3% in the January to March 2003 quarter.  This
will result in a 5% decline in like for like radio revenue for the six months to
31st March 2003, in line with our expectations.



The short term market is very uncertain and we remain cautious regarding future
advertising demand.  We continue to manage the cost base of our business on the
assumption that the advertising market remains under pressure for the rest of
our financial year.
