RNS Number:4316Q Patientline PLC 02 October 2003 CONTRACT WIN 2nd October 2003 Patientline plc Patientline selected for high profile new hospital at University College London Patientline has been selected by the University College of London NHS Trust to provide its bedside service at the new 800-bed hospital on Marylebone Road in London. The new hospital, which replaces the existing UCL Hospital and the Middlesex Hospital, will be a state of the art teaching facility. The first phase of approximately 600 beds is scheduled to open in 2005. In selecting Patientline, the Trust was looking for the best possible entertainment and communication service for its patients, combined with a system that would enhance clinical care and efficiency. The Trust has recently signed a contract with IDX/Logica to provide an integrated care record system. It is intended that the Patientline bedside units will provide access for clinicians to the IDX system. Patientline is already working with IDX at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to provide access to the advanced 'Last Word' patient record system at each bedside. Selection by the UCL NHS Trust brings the total number of hospitals for which Patientline has a contract or has been selected to 170 hospitals, of which 158 are over 200 beds, compared with 159 and 149 respectively as at 31 March 2003. The Patientline system is now operational in 94 hospitals through a total of 44,000 terminals, compared with 75 and 35,000 as at 31 March 2003. Derek Lewis, Chairman of Patientline, commented: 'We are delighted to have been selected for this technically advanced hospital, which has a high profile internationally. It will provide a further important opportunity to demonstrate the clinical capabilities of the Patientline system, as well as its well-established patient services. The number of hospitals at which we have been selected is continuing to grow, while the number of installed terminals and revenues per terminal are both progressing in line with our expectations. In the first half of the financial year, 9,000 new terminals have gone live, which is consistent with our expectations of 20,000 new terminals for the full year.' Notes for Editors There are just over 300 acute hospitals in the UK with 200 or more beds. Some 80% of these are in England and are covered by the NHS Plan requirement to provide bedside television and telephone services by the end of 2004. Enquiries: Tim Lynch, Consultant.
