Hi Philip,

I haven't been paid off but my brother has, about £225, I have a letter here that my brother got through the post, this is what it says on it:

"As you may know the company European Telecom has gone into liquidation. The comapany has issued a repayments proceeds to shareholeders of £0.00446 per share. Therefore we enclosed a cheque for £225.08 to be credited to the clients account."

I have been in contact to the broker about this letter, first they said that there was no money left, then they said the company has not paid any money out.

I told them that my brother has received a cheque and I've got the letter here as proof, they wanted to see it, so I sent it through a fax machine, after about three days they rang me up and said that my brother should not have received any money and that there's been an error.

As the cheque that I should have received would have been almost £3,000, I am going to show this letter to a solicitor to see if I can do anything about it as I feel that I am being ripped off, the way that I see it is that you can't pay one or (some ex-ET investors) and not others.

Thanks for responding and if you know of other ex-ET investors, I'd like to hear from them.

Good luck with your investing.

If you go to the Price waterhouse coopers web site and look for news! then the guy at PWC says that they are only looking at the UK business!!!

I would like to know if when this is concluded what happens with our shares? we owned shares in ET PLC which 100% owns all the divisions! the UK has gone to the wall but the rest is still operational!

does this mean we will re list but only have the divisions abroad?

comments or facts anyone?

ho hum
bought some of these on a hunch
several lost shirts later, I figured out that the hunch should have warned me that this company is a Quasimodo in waiting....
The telecomm lows can't last forever, but then nor can ETE with this much debt and uncontrolled costs in its core businesses....

just lokked at the trades and yesterday there was a 250K buy in the morning ( I think and then steady selling, but in small amounts and didnt come any where near the possible buy in the morning!

Today there was an other possible buy, small then 2 buys and the share price goes down!

can we read in to this or not!!!!

Is this just reading between th elines or have you heard something?

I woul dof though that with the other business making money and the le mans to start producing revenue for ETE then even if worst cases came a long they would have to shut down th UK distribution business Not everything?

Lets see what happens! If this does go down the pan I will lose a packet! so Ive got my fingers crossed!

does anyone know when the results will be made public?

surley they cannot write down any more, all the bad news it out and surley we shoul datart to see this recover slowly?

It will be good to see how much of the debt they have paid off! maybe they will want to hold down the share price a bit longer if they pay off more debt and make the loss look bigger now so they can start with a clean sheet, the directors start buying and the way forward is north? maybe they will hold it down for a MBO or they respect the share holders that bailed them out of short term trouble with the right issue and we can ride the wave together!

any thoughts

Hi sorry about the nickname....to be changed soon though.

Euro.Telecom..hmmmm......I fell into this one sometime ago.I say fell into as it caught my on the way it plummeted. So I have put some money on it recently @4.4p

The way that I would describe this share is 60/30 60% liable to lose and 30% liable to go up. The interesting thing here is that if it goes up even by a few pence that would mean (well for me anyway) a 50% increase in ventured capital. In addition, it may well have the effect of attracting many more hop on investors. (yes I know I'm an optimist really)How long would you have to wait for your Bank/Building society to pay that amount out? Balance it also with the average amount a person spends on the lottery and suddenly a few hundred pounds can seem like a very reasonable investment. Anyway happy hunting to you....as you probably are aware the EOFY account due now...should be interesting reading. M.

You seem to hit the nail on the head - "it has not looked very positive for the last 20mnths or so". Something of an understatement, some might say. I would say they have hit, or are very close to hitting, rock bottom as far as the performance of the company goes. From here, either the management grab it by the scruff of the neck and sort it out (which they seem to be trying to do, with support from RBoS), or it will go bankrupt (within the next 12-18 months?).

Here's a summary of the headlines that I made before buying a small amount in late August:

28/06/2001 Entered conditional agreement to divest its 80% interest in ET
Voice to Domain Dynamics (Holdings) Limited

28/06/2001 The Royal Bank of Scotland agreed in principle to provide banking
and debt facilities to European Telecom for the next 12 months.

28/06/2001 David McKinney (Group Managing Director): "The financial year
ended 31 March 2001 was a very difficult and disappointing one. In arriving
at the estimated losses we have had to take account of a significant level
of one-off costs and abnormal trading items. These include the impact of
the new ERP system which is now stable and operational, a major warehouse
relocation, reorganisation and restructuring costs, as well as the impact of
a rigorous appraisal of the value of our stocks and investments."

27/07/2001 European Telecom announced that it has agreed to sell its 50%
interest in Global Telematics plc to Thales IT & S Holdings Ltd; initial
consideration will be #6 million in cash payable at completion together with
the repayment of outstanding trade receivables owing to European Telecom by
Global Telematics.

As I said, I haven't researched them as thoroughly as I could have done, and more has happened since the above. I'm not focussed on the share price as much as on the actions and performance of the management - IF they can return the company to profitability, the share price will eventually reflect this; Mr Shuttleworth seems to give the impression that this can happen.

No investment advice intended.

Alex
