Turner Entertainment Networks Selects Radyne HDTV Technology PHOENIX, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Radyne ComStream (Nasdaq: RADN; Warrants: RADNW) today announced that Turner Entertainment Networks selected its newest HDTV encoder technology to bring NBA basketball to millions of viewers. Turner has ordered Radyne's HE4000 video encoder with a built-in satellite modulator to provide simultaneous High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) video compression and transmission capability for its digital sports broadcasts. "Their selection of the HE4000 as the basis of expanding their live HDTV coverage reflects Radyne's commitment to create advanced solutions as the market continues to grow," said Brian Duggan, COO. The HE4000, combines, in one unit, simultaneous HD and SD video encoding along with the world's first DVB S2 internal modulator. The HE4000 also has a built-in monitor on the front panel reducing the need for an additional receiver and monitor. This integration of features provides excellent HD and SD picture quality with tremendous bandwidth savings. The HE4000 can be configured for ultra high-quality HD encoding, using Radyne ComStream's PurePEG HD Technology which features an innovative combination of video pre-processing and two-pass encoding for the highest picture quality. PurePEG HD Technology provides for improved picture quality, especially at lower HD bit rates. This will allow Turner Entertainment Networks to provide excellent HD and SD picture quality while using revolutionary DVB S2 modulation for tremendous bandwidth savings.
