QuikTrak Networks PLC 19 April 2004 QuikTrak Tracking Technology - Fighting Terrorism London, 19 April 2004 - QuikTrak Networks plc (AIM: "QTR"), the secure tracking and data messaging network operator is playing a part in the ongoing fight against terrorism through its technology partner Sonic Communications (Int) Ltd and its development of the QT Aegis, a small portable tracking device. The QT Aegis is part of a wide range of products specifically designed for emergency service agencies, armed forces and crime intelligence agencies worldwide. The QT Aegis is fitted with a personal duress button that can be worn on a belt or carried in a pocket. Sonic is a leader in specialist audio and video communications technology and works closely with the UK's police forces providing custom-built leading edge solutions and equipment, helping to make them one of the safest and most efficient forces in Europe. David Bryan, Managing Director, of Sonic Communications commented, "Few countries in the world have not suffered from terrorist violence over the past three decades. Domestic and international terrorism is now at the top of the agenda for most nations. The QuikTrak technology greatly assists police forces and intelligence agencies to prevent and combat threats to personal safety. Tracking for protection is the only way to ensure the safety of those who put their lives at risk for the public, whether it be police, military or humanitarian effort. We are very excited to be able to add this product to the range for our existing clients." Guido van Alphen, COO of QuikTrak added, "For every employer, there is a duty of care and it is perhaps fitting that the police and armed forces are the first to implement such a device for protection and monitoring of their personnel. In Australia, the police have been using the technology for more than seven years for VIP, royal and police protection, as well as in crime scenarios. The most famous case was that of the serial killer, John Glover, who was eventually arrested by police who used a QuikTrak device covertly installed within his vehicle. We fully expect that as we extend the coverage area of the network across the country, many other police forces will want to use our technology in a multitude of ways." QuikTrak uses advanced spread-spectrum radio technology and is not reliant on any third party. This means it can provide low cost, highly secure tracking and data communication for its users via a small portable transponder fitted into a case of any size. - ends - For further information: Chris Kyriakou/Annie Richards Ana Ribeiro / Justine Howarth QuikTrak Networks plc Parkgreen Communications +44 870 010 6044 +44 20 7493 3713 Notes to editors QuikTrak QuikTrak is a telecommunications business that specialises in secure, reliable and low-cost location, real-time tracking and mobile data communications. The Company provides solutions for locating and tracking vehicles, people and mobile assets through a terrestrial positioning network based on patented technology. QuikTrak is able to locate objects or people that may be hidden from view; unlike GPS-GSM systems it is almost impossible to jam and does not require ' line-of-sight'. This difference not only makes QuikTrak more effective and more secure than existing tracking technologies but the system provides a lower cost alternative to other tracking solutions available in the market. QuikTrak Technology Applications The potential applications for the technology are diverse, but currently QuikTrak is focussing on a number of key areas including: Lone Worker Protection - tracking of individuals who work alone such as emergency services workers. The QuikTrak technology is to be trialled by a number of UK police forces, local councils, service organisations and Primary Health Care Trusts. Commercial Fleet and Personnel Management - tracking of commercial vehicles such as courier or freight companies. In this market the QuikTrak technology is currently being trialled by companies such as a leading London-based courier company and utility and services organisations. Security Systems - such as asset security (for example cars, motorbikes, plant and equipment) and alarm systems. In this market QuikTrak is currently being trialled by a number of high profile companies. The QT Aegis The unit is fitted with a personal duress button which gives audible feedback when the alarm is received by the network. Alert messages may be sent from a central office to the device where separate sounds alert the wearer/bearer/owner to 'call-in' for instruction, etc. It has a battery life of between 9 and 18 hours, depending on the frequency of tracking. Robust metal case design with optional belt loop. QuikTrak Revenue Model QuikTrak earns revenue from the sale of the tracking/messaging device. Ongoing revenue is then secured by charging a recurring annual connection fee and for ' airtime usage.' The business model aims to partner with service providers in specific sectors rather than seek to sell directly into the sector.
