Silicon Image Expands Storage Division to Capitalize on
Revolutionary SATA-Based Storage Architecture
Management Aligned to Target High-Growth Storage Opportunities
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon Image, Inc. , a
leader in multi-gigabit semiconductor solutions for the secure transmission and
storage of rich digital media, announced today that it has expanded its storage
operations to address storage platforms opportunities with a revolutionary new
Serial ATA (SATA)-based architecture.
To strengthen its focus and capitalize on high-growth storage opportunities, the
Company has made the following management changes. Steve Tirado, formerly
company president, will become division president of the storage group,
reporting to Dr. David Lee, Silicon Image chairman and CEO. Also joining the
storage group is Jimmy Garcia-Meza, former vice president of worldwide sales,
who will now serve as vice president of sales and marketing for storage
platforms, reporting to Mr. Tirado. Former senior director of North America
East and EMEA, Rob Valiton, will become Silicon Image's vice president of
worldwide sales, reporting to David Lee. Dr. Lee will assume Mr. Tirado's
former responsibilities until a search is completed.
"Our innovative new architecture for SATA-based platforms requires the expansion
of our storage business to capitalize on this significant growth opportunity.
To monetize this opportunity requires the development of new products, channels
and partners. Following a strong finish to 2003 and a very strong beginning for
2004, we felt the time was now right to deploy resources to this initiative.
Steve and Jimmy have been instrumental in positioning and growing the company to
this stage, and we are counting on them to grow our storage business to a new
level. I am also very pleased to promote Rob Valiton to the senior management
team. Having responsibility for managing several large OEM accounts, Rob has
long been recognized as an outstanding member of our sales organization and a
rising star within the company," said Dr. Lee.
"With its innovative and robust SATA technology, Silicon Image has rapidly
become a world force in the SATA storage solutions market. Our SATALink(TM)
solutions have been deployed across more than 4 million systems, and I am
excited to build our business on this unique and revolutionary SATA
architecture," said Steve Tirado. "The storage industry has yet to see a true
storage appliance model capable of scaling from the consumer to the enterprise.
Our upcoming storage solutions will deliver unprecedented price/performance,
combined with the simplicity of direct attached storage (DAS) and the robustness
and features of a storage area network (SAN). We intend to use this
architecture to strengthen our relationships with our existing customers and
strategic partners."
