Sarantel Group PLC 26 July 2005 For immediate release 26 July 2005 Sarantel Group PLC Military equipped with Sarantel GPS Antenna Sarantel Group plc ("Sarantel"), the leading manufacturer of revolutionary filtering antennas for wireless devices, today announces that Encore Software of Bangalore, India will use Sarantel's GeoHelix GPS antenna in its new Saathi PDA for the Indian Army. The Sarantel GPS antenna ensures that every Indian soldier with a Saathi has optimum GPS reception across all environments and locations. The Saathi is a robust tactical GPS enabled PDA with integrated radio and a customised GIS application for displaying military maps and location of other devices. Weighing 875 grams, the Saathi can easily fit into a soldier's palm and also has a remotely operated self-destruction and activation feature for preventing misuse by unauthorised persons. Encore Software integrated Sarantel's high performance miniature GPS antenna in the Saathi to ensure soldiers have stable GPS reception in unstable conditions i.e near people or other electronics in the radio. While conventional antennas de-tune and become inefficient when in contact with RF-absorbing materials like the soldier's hand or head, Sarantel's GeoHelix GPS antennas stay on frequency regardless of how they are used. The Sarantel antenna also works in random orientations because of the antenna's omni-directional capability. This important capability removes the burden on soldiers to think about orienting the Saathi in order to achieve reliable performance. Mr. Mark Mathais, President of Encore Software Mobile Computing Products says: "The Sarantel GeoHelix antenna is the only antenna we could source for use on the Saathi. A patch antenna was not acceptable to the customer." David Wither, CEO of Sarantel commented: "The Saathi is the first time the Sarantel GPS antenna has been used in a large scale military application. GPS is an invaluable tool for the soldier. The Sarantel GPS antenna provides exceptional reception in extreme conditions and enables Indian soldiers to carry out their duties without having to worry about GPS performance." -ends- For further information please contact: Sarantel Group PLC www.sarantel.com David Wither, CEO/Sitkow Yeung, CFO 01933 670560 Smithfield 020 7360 4900 Sara Musgrave/Sarah Richardson Notes to editors About Sarantel Sarantel designs, manufactures and sells patented, ceramic, filtering antennas for use in portable wireless devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), laptops and Third Generation (3G) mobile devices. Its current focus is on producing antennas for the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) market which allow a clearer signal than conventional antennas whilst reducing the amount of energy absorbed by the body by approximately 90 per cent. The antennas simplify system design, thus allowing design standardisation and reduced time to market and cost for manufacturers. As well as GPS, Sarantel's antenna technology is capable of servicing multiple emerging high volume markets such as Wi-Fi, 3G, Satellite Radio and Bluetooth. These markets are expected to be key in the future success of mobile network operators and device manufacturers. Sarantel's antennas significantly improve the performance of wireless systems by increasing the range and effective bandwidth. Sarantel is planning to commence high volume delivery of its antennas into the satellite radio market within the next 12 months.
