Komen Founder Nancy Brinker Makes Surprise Appearance at Company's Passionately Pink Event in Sandpoint, Idaho SANDPOINT, Idaho, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The employees of Coldwater Creek presented a check for $100,000 to Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, at the company's Passionately Pink Day event on Wednesday, October 4. More than 700 Coldwater Creek employees, dressed in pink T-shirts adorned with the signature Komen Foundation pink ribbon logo, celebrated their first- ever Passionately Pink Day during the company's national managers' meeting in Sandpoint. The $100,000 donation comes on the heels of the company's own National Series Sponsorship of the Komen Race for the Cure events held across the country. In addition, Coldwater Creek presented each of their local Komen affiliates in Spokane, WA, and Coeur d'Alene, ID, with $10,000 checks on Wednesday. Brinker, sister of Susan Komen, flew to the company's headquarters in Sandpoint on Wednesday to praise Coldwater Creek and their efforts in supporting the Komen Foundation. "At Coldwater Creek, your support of Komen reflects your abiding sense of social responsibility," she said. Four employees also addressed the audience, each sharing their own unique experience with breast cancer, the impact it made on their lives, and what Coldwater Creek's involvement with the Komen Foundation means to them. Ann Johnson, one of the speakers at Wednesday's event, works at Coldwater Creek's corporate office and spearheads the company's affiliation with Komen. She learned just seven weeks ago that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and faces a tough battle ahead. "I was aware of this disease, but I was not immune," said Johnson. "But thanks to the efforts of the Komen Foundation and Coldwater Creek's committed sponsorship, the awareness I gained from my job led me to find the cancer early and increased my chances of survival."
