California Website Lists 2005 ZAP WORLDCAR(TM) as Certified ZEV
SANTA ROSA, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced transportation
firm ZAP (OTC:ZAPZ) (BULLETIN BOARD: ZAPZ) announced today that the State of
California's Air Resources Board has posted the ZAP WORLDCAR and the WORLDCAR
Utility in its online guide of certified "Zero-Emission Vehicles" or ZEVs.
California established a website, http://www.driveclean.ca.gov/, to help
Californians looking for cleaner cars. With the most stringent regulatory
standards for automobiles in the U.S., California has six different
classifications of fuel-efficient vehicles, with ZEVs being the cleanest.
California defines a ZEV has having as zero tailpipe emissions and being 98
percent cleaner than the average new 2003 model year vehicle. California's
legislature established the Air Resources Board in 1967 to maintain healthy air
quality, conduct research into air pollution and attack the serious problem
caused by motor vehicles, which are the major causes of air pollution in the
State.
The 2005 Model Year ZAP WORLDCAR and the WORLDCAR (Utility EV) were certified
as ZEVs by the California Air Resources Board under an Executive Order in
September 2004. The certification allows ZAP vehicles to be licensed and sold
in the State and gives the purchaser access to incentives created for drivers
of Zero-Emission Vehicles. Drivers can qualify for a special Zero- Emission
Vehicle parking decals that allow them to park and refuel at designated
recharging parking spaces, as well as preferred locations at airports, shopping
malls, mass transit hubs and more. The vehicles now qualify for grants for
public agencies to purchase them and there is a 10 percent federal tax credit
for consumer purchases.
ZAP CEO Steve Schneider says ZAP's manufacturing partners for the electric cars
in China have the ability to deliver thousands of units. He added that the base
models are priced under $10,000 and include features and options that surpass
the expectations of many American consumers -- power windows, power door locks,
CD players, air-conditioning, computer controlled instrumentation, tilt
steering wheel, deluxe interior, alloy wheels, tinted windows and more.
ZAP introduced the WORLDCAR in 2003 at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in
Sonoma, California, where the car received the highest scores in five
performance criteria. While the event hosted advanced transportation prototypes
from 83 automotive groups around the world, Schneider says that ZAP had one of
the only production electric automobile available for sale.
