BakBone Software Announces NetVault 7.3 - New Solution Delivers Enhanced Support for Applications Running in Windows and Linux Clustered Environments ORLANDO, Fla., STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BakBone Software(TM) (TSX: BKB; OTC Bulletin Board: BKBOF), a global provider of data protection software, today announced the release of NetVault 7.3 with enhanced support for file systems and selected applications running in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and RedHat Enterprise Linux clustered environments. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20031120/SDBAKLOGO) Building on BakBone's range of open systems data recovery products that are proven lower in cost and easier to use than competitive solutions, NetVault 7.3 continues to raise the data protection bar for small-to-midsize businesses (SMBs) and ensures that data and applications are always available, further helping to drive down costs. Introduced this week at Storage Networking World in Orlando, Florida, NetVault 7.3 provides support for file systems running in Windows Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) and RedHat Enterprise Linux Cluster Manager clustered configurations. Applications currently supported in these cluster configurations include MS Exchange and MS SQL running in a Windows environment. Enhanced support for Oracle databases running in a RedHat Enterprise Linux environment is targeted for Spring 2005. "We completely understand the needs of small-to-midsize businesses to have reliable data protection solutions for their business-critical data," said Jet Martin, director of product management, BakBone. "NetVault 7.3 builds on the reputation we have established for ourselves in the market, once again delivering to customers what they have come to expect from BakBone -- a backup and recovery solution that is highly scalable and combines low total cost of ownership and ease of use." SMBs are often faced with the challenges of supporting the growth of their businesses, managing their IT infrastructure with limited IT staff and increasing the availability of their data. Using a cluster, or group of independent computers working together as a single system, can ensure that mission-critical business information and resources remain available. Integral to meeting the data protection needs of these growing organizations, NetVault 7.3 is highly scalable, allowing IT administrators to seamlessly add and protect additional clients as their IT environments expand. Designed to significantly reduce the complexity and potential for configuration error traditionally found in a clustered environment, NetVault 7.3 is also elegantly architected to use an abstraction layer called a Virtual Client. The Virtual Client communicates with each node in the cluster to identically install and configure the clustered Application Plugin Module (APM), virtually eliminating configuration error that may otherwise reduce the reliability of the backup system. From a single screen, a system administrator can configure his IT environment in minutes, providing significant time and cost savings while ensuring maximum availability of business critical data in each application cluster. NetVault 7.3 provides support for file systems and applications in both Active/Passive and Active/Active clustered configurations. Active/Passive applications run on one node and failover to a redundant, standby node in the event of a failure. In Active/Active clustering, all nodes are actively running applications and are directed by the cluster manager software to failover to a surviving node(s) in the event of a failure. For either type of clustering, NetVault 7.3 provides fast, reliable system recovery of data and can resume productivity following a disaster. Pricing and availability NetVault 7.3 with support for MS Exchange and MS SQL applications running in a Windows environment will be available November 2004. Support for additional clustered applications and operating systems will be available in future releases, with support for Oracle databases (RMAN interface only) running on RedHat Enterprise Linux version 3 RHCS managed clusters targeted for Spring 2005. NetVault 7.3 Workgroup package for Intel based systems begins at $1,195.
