TAIPEI--Asustek Computer Inc. (2357.TW) said Wednesday that its first-quarter notebook shipments and revenue rose by around 15% from a year earlier, as the company expanded sales in Asia and other markets with the help of aggressively priced products.
The Taiwanese personal computer maker, the fifth largest globally by shipments, expects second-quarter revenue to be flat from the first quarter, said chief financial officer David Chang in an investor conference call. The company expects notebook shipments to grow from 4.7 million in the first quarter but tablet shipments to fall due to a product transition.
Asustek's tablet shipments saw a fivefold increase in the first quarter from a year earlier, helped by the popular Nexus 7 tablet cobranded with Google Inc. (GOOG).
The company held a conference call ahead of its investor conference next month to reassure investors after its stock slid following the release of IDC data last week that showed a severe contraction in the global PC industry, Mr. Chang said.
Asustek's stock is down 4.4% from last Wednesday.
