Statement re. Suspension

                      Yorkshire Group plc (the "Company")
                        Update on suspension of trading

The Company announced on 26 April 2004 that, as it would not be in a position to
finalise its results for the year ended 31 December 2003 by 29 April 2004, the
Company's shares had been suspended by the UK Listing Authority.

Since that time the Company has been working with various creditors and third
parties in order to try to reduce the burden of the Company's debt and to assess
whether any of its businesses can continue in a restructured form.

As part of this process, the Company announced on 17 June 2004 that it had
entered into an initial contract for the disposal of its freehold property in
Aegaleo, Greece and that, given the Company's severe financial difficulties, it
was not in a position to seek shareholder consent to that disposal. That sale
has now completed, with the majority of the net proceeds being applied in the
reduction of the secured lending provided by the Group's principal lending banks
(and the balance being applied for short term working capital purposes).

The Company is now (subject to the continuing support of various parties,
including the aforesaid principal lending banks) entering into the final phases
of negotiations with a number of different parties with a view to the disposal
of some or all of the Company's remaining assets and businesses. These
discussions are likely to be concluded in the near future and, regrettably, are
not expected to result in any offer, or payment or return, to the Company's
shareholders.

Given these circumstances and the period which has elapsed since the suspension
of the Company's shares, the Company will continue to review whether it should
make an application to the UK Listing Authority for the Company's listing to be
cancelled.
