RNS No 6296r VOCALIS GROUP PLC 14th January 1998 VOCALIS APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE Charles Halle moves from IBM to lead Vocalis Group plc Vocalis Group plc, the speech recognition and telephony solutions company, announces the appointment of Charles Halle as Chief Executive Officer. Currently a director in IBM's "e-business" unit providing network computing and Internet solutions, Halle will take over the top post at Vocalis on 2nd February. His appointment marks a significant new step to build on the success of Vocalis in 1997, which was highlighted by three major contracts with Ericsson to supply SPEECHtel systems to public telephone network operators in Europe and Asia. While at IBM, Halle was instrumental in founding and achieving the rapid success of "e-business", the networking computer solutions unit set up to exploit the latest computing technologies based on networks and the Internet. In this role he was also responsible for IBM Northern Europe and South Africa, and directed the business areas of Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) solutions, Workflow solutions, Sales Forces Automation and Marketing Centres. Halle's other significant achievements at IBM included the successful launch of the AS/400 range of computers.
