Wonder if its a bad sign for UK plc. Is the message it is better to list offshore than it is in th UK?

As for the "Awkward squad" most of them have done so well out of UIL over the years they will be chartering there own plane to Bermuda......

My only other concern is regulation UK gives the impression it looks after its investors but this may be born out of ignorance on my part. Opinions welcommed.

Yes AGM in Bermuda as all company meetings would have to be located there.
It will require an EGM as moving a registered office offshore would need a special resolution.I am hoping that interested private investors might be quietly invited to any unofficial London briefings that the manager might hold. It must be in the Company's interest to keep existing private holders on board. However it might be deemed better to keep the "awkward squad" at bay.

Interim results out, of which thius is an extract:-

HIGHLIGHTS OF RESULTS

* Profit for the period of #74.6m

* Equity shareholders' funds increased 51.5% to #219.2m

* NAV per share undiluted up 51.5% at 336.97p

* Equity gearing reduced to 1.6x

* Undiluted average annual compound return per ordinary share of 51.6%

COMMENT

* The Chairman, Alan Wheatley, commented, "Once again I can report on a
very satisfactory first half. The infrastructure and utilities sector remains a
key focus for the markets and the two key factors influencing this sector,
corporate activity and strong earnings, remain in place and should continue to
benefit investors. Utilico's portfolio should benefit from these factors,
although rising interest rates could challenge this outlook."

Taking a look at the underlying portfolio. JEL NAV circa nearly twice the share price, Ecofin share price at a discount to NAV, Simon Group port operators are being bought by foreign investors for significant multiples. BAA in takeover discussion or at least being persued. UEM in the BRIC emerging market area attracting a lot of investors money. ERG potential around the world...and so it goes on.

Highly recommend reading through the last annual report and checking the websites of the underlying which can be accessed from the utilico website

Good move Purse 50p to £1.80 is not bad that said its not too late to buy ECWC at todays price £2.32-£2.37 undiluted NAV over £3.22 IMHO. American electric utilities deregulation, Euro companies looking to make themselves attractive to investors, spin off IPO's and takeovers likely to have a futher positive impact on Ecofins gross assets IMHO.

From Investors Chronicle I believe Utilico have a holding in IEG

from

"International Energy Group is being targeted by shareholder activists lookin to release value, says the Mail on Sunday. Accordin to the newspaper, the potential value of the gas connection business, Gas Transportation Company, is believed to have attracted investors, including investment trust Ecofin Water & Power Opportunities, which recently raised its stake to 10 per cent. Ecofin invests in utility companies, mainly for their dividend yield, but it also has a successful history of taking stakes in businesses and encouraging corporate change and a return of value to shareholders."

Utility companies, particularly water utilities, look to be positively re-rated during 2004 - comment by Henderson Global Investors on Bloomberg TV 8.40am this morning. Identified as a sector with overall positive potential for the new year.

Thanks again. An acquaintance claims to be one of the UK experts on Japanese Candlestick Theory some of the traders tell him its like reading Tea Leaves but the bank he belongs to wont make a move without his input.

Have found charts useful though you have to register now. Have lost quite a bit following charts. The focus now is not loosing money and value investing which you have to be prepared to wait for sometimes.

Historically held water only shares for safe capital growth and income. F & C Suit Plc Utilico's predecessor was and Utilico is a significant investor in the water only companies.

SUIT and Utilico have always attracted a discount to NAV which is useful to get a discounted exposure to their holdings sometimes but baffling as the management team have been getting it right and working well for some considerable time.

Most of the holdings they have are undervalued too, the dividend and simple share structure make it easy to buy and hold and wait until value is realised.
