This whitelist seem to be largely ignored and the effectiveness of click-throughs in making a site popular, useful, web-centric, worthwhile, &c seems lost on ADVFN but here's another few just in case...

Could you please add the following link to the list please.

hxxp://www.americanpalmoil.com

My personal view on the whole thing is that a banner should have been added to the top of every thread telling everybody about the new white list and at the least advising black thread owners not to try and change their headers or they might lose weeks worth of effort.

On the other hand it feels a bit like winning a fiver on the lottery when one of your long lost links is suddenly usable again.

Incidentally one of those is the website of your major shareholder Guy Thomas. If you really don't want to add it to the list (I proposed it over a month ago) perhaps he might have something to say about it.

We haven't stopped adding links. The list is updated everyday.

maybe you could go back to the start of this thread and check, because a lot of links that have been suggested have not been added to the list.

Here are a few of the ones I've suggested which have been ignored. Is there something you object to about these websites?

Exactly zangdook, so what was it all about?

...and we don't even know if the white list would have been workable because they seem to have stopped bothering to add links.

Well, a few weeks down the line and it appears to me that this cunning plan by ADVFN hasn't worked.

We still get lots of spam posts advertising the latest must have newsletter.

What this attempt to stop the spam (if that ever was the reason) has acheived is, to disrupt long standing threads, driven regular and appreciated 'black' posters to pastures new MAM.

If ADVFN want any kind of a return to norm then please reinstate the ability to post links by the 'blacks'.

Thankfully it hasn't stopped all of the 'blacks' from posting links but it's a pain in the butt editing the links before getting to them.
Having a 'white' list is a pointless exercise.

ADVFN has stopped quite a few really good posters from posting links all together.
ADVFN was one of the best sites it is now in danger of becoming an also ran.

Rant over.

there are add-ons which suppress them entirely. If you let them sit there they eat up your RAM.

The white list seems to have been forgotten about.

i prefer "under"

i don't want a load of adverts taking up my tabs space

I think they are intended to pop under, whatever the browser (though Safari forces it to a new tab). I wonder if Internet Exploiter or Firefox can be set up similarly.

regarding pop ups

I use Mozilla Firefox now because internet explorer seems to have gone from bad to worse lately.

It is much faster loading pages and I notice that pop ups, always pop up UNDER the web page I am viewing, so they don't bother me in the least. Just close the pop ups when you are shutting down your pc.

Make sure to set Mozilla as your default browser when asked
