07/5/2003 12:11 | Well Portman still looks cheap... sold it actually, the response to the "good news" being somewhat muted & brokers lukewarm. It might "just" be SARS worries about China demand. | captain swing
01/4/2003 07:44 | Portman (PMM.AX, POR.L) just got conditional environmental approval for its Kooly mine expansion. See RNS also Shares liked it, A$1.14 last I looked | captain swing
02/3/2003 23:14 | Portman (PMM.AX, POR.L) is a West Australian iron ore miner which has an AIM quote. It's an interesting play just now as it is waiting on the result of an appeal against a negative decision on environmental permitting. This is to do with a rare flower which only grows in a part of the Koolyanobbing hills in southern WA, where Portman wants to expand its mining. The Kooly expansion would nearly double Portman's production. The fact that it was stymied (after all exploration was done, and land rights agreed with local Aborigines) apparently accounts for a steep fall in the share price. News on the appeal is expected possibly by end of the quarter. More on the POR thread. At least one broker is optimistic. Low PE, pays divi, cash rich, I like. DYOR, NAG, etc. | captain swing
02/3/2003 22:39 | Thanks for the charts. Kingsgate is KCN. Their costs are low, but it is not obvious where their future resources will come from. | mikkydhu

02/3/2003 19:47 | Hi e, charts for Croesus, Kingsgate and Oxiana would be useful. OXR has a lot of exploration potential as well as a copper mine to come for which they see a ready market on their doorstep. | mikkydhu

20/3/2002 14:08 | Having read the above long posting and having lived in Sydney myself I agree with nearly all that is said. Can I just add one thing - from a male perspective Sydney is a great place to be as the women outnumber the men 5 -1 (when I was there anyhow) and there are scores of gorgeous females who find it difficult to meet men - so if you are looking for romance you will be spoilt for choice. Sydney is definitely more scenic than Melbourne, well for me anyway. After 5 years living there I came home as I found it boring, I hated the heat and all the insects, especially mosquitos, and the whole place lacked "vibe". Anyway, just my tuppenceworth! | maysie555

24/2/2002 19:57 | Watch the spiders too, some serious arachnid's out there apparently!! Beats dodging the bears and bulls in the UK I suppose!! | artful watcher
24/2/2002 19:49 | Artful, Cheers. Will probably depart in July, which I somehow regret as the European summer starts fairly late. Weather in the Pacific that time of the year isn't really optimal. | erdmanski
24/2/2002 19:46 | Worked with a few guys Erdmanski who took a year out to "do the Aussie thing". That was 3years plus ago. None of the 3 have reported back so that may help you form an opinion. I do remember hearing that the only drawback was that you had to go to/return from work in some serious heat. (Where's that damn passport!!) Good Luck, but I think you'll go anyway, otherwise you'll never know how green the grass is!! Artful | artful watcher
24/2/2002 19:03 | Considering moving to Australia/Sydney on a medium-term basis (1-2 years), and would appreciate any views and comments on life 'Down Under'. Any particular advantages/downsides to living in Sydney? | erdmanski |
