TRANSAMERICA FINANCE CORPORATION TO REDEEM  6.50%  DEBENTURES DUE 2011
REDEMPTION DATE:  NOVEMBER 15, 2004



Rosemont, Ill., Oct. 19, 2004 - Transamerica Finance Corporation ("TFC" or the 
"Company") announced today that it has elected to redeem all of its outstanding
6.50% Debentures due 2011 CUSIP No. 893502 AH 7*) (the "Securities") on November
15, 2004 (the "Redemption Date") at 100% of their principal amount (the
"Redemption Price") plus accrued and unpaid interest thereon from September 15,
2004 to the Redemption Date.


Payment of the Redemption Price will be made only upon presentation and
surrender of the Securities at the offices of U. S. Bank Corporate Trust
Services, the paying agent for the Securities,  A formal notice of redemption
has been mailed to all registered holders.
