                      NORTHAMPTON TO BOOST RECYCLING RATES

Straight plc, the AIM listed supplier of recycling containers, has won a #1
million plus contract to supply 170,000 kerbside boxes and 56,000 wheeled bins
to Northampton Borough Council. The initiative forms part of a project that is
expected to lead to a substantial increase in local recycling rates.

The contract is the first to make use of Straight's new 44 litre and 55 litre
kerbside box combination, allowing paper and cardboard to be collected in the
smaller container. The larger box will initially be used for plastic, cans and
foil. Both boxes will be delivered to all 85,000 households in the Borough,
with 28,000 of them also receiving two 240 litre wheeled bins - one for normal
domestic waste, the other for garden waste.

In those parts of the borough that will receive kerbside boxes, only Straight
will also promote a home composting and water conservation programme. Residents
will be offered cut price composters, as well as discounted water butts in a
promotional tie-up with Anglian Water Direct.

"Northampton has enjoyed good recovery rates since we began recycling 30 years
ago," says waste minimisation manager Gill Dillon. "However, we're aiming for
an increase from last year's 14 percent rate to something like 24 percent this
year".
