RNS Number:0250Z Straight PLC 26 June 2007 26 June 2007 Straight plc TRADING STATEMENT TO AGM ON 26 JUNE 2007 Straight plc (AIM: STT), the Leeds-based supplier of recycling containers, is today providing an update in the following trading statement at its annual general meeting. Sales revenues in the first half of the year are expected to exceed those for the same period in 2006, with sales of recycling containers significantly higher, as the Government's vision of more household waste being separated at source continues to drive demand upwards. Retail sales have remained strong although the sales of higher margin water-butts, which last year were subject to unprecedented high demand in the first half due to the very dry weather and hose pipe bans, will be more evenly spread throughout the year. New products have been introduced and we now have a presence in a number of leading multiple retailers for our 'Cloudburst' garden products range. We are pleased to report that the restructuring of our business model, with the outsourcing of our distribution, warehousing and contact centre activities, is almost complete and now working effectively. Due to these changes, the significant additional costs incurred in the second half of last year to maintain customer service during the periods of peak activity, will not reoccur in this period. There will, however, be some charges for the restructuring of the business operations as well as for the relocation of the Group's activities later in the year. As a result of the changes in the pattern of trading and the timing of exceptional costs compared to last year, the ratio of profitability between the first and second halves of the year will be much more evenly spread this year. The second half of the year is looking positive both in the trade and retail parts of the business. The trade order book is at record levels for this time of the year and our strategic alliance with Helesi plc has been strengthened to provide a more dynamic service. On the retail side, a new three-year contract has recently been signed with Thames Water for the promotion and sale of water-butts and other water-saving products. The Group has also commenced campaigns for Scottish Water and Welsh Water for the first time. Sales of product through the Group's catalogue and internet sites, including www.evengreener.com, continue to increase month on month. The Government's recently published 'Waste Strategy' has called for increased recycling targets and continues to focus public attention on the environmental agenda. During the second half of the year, the Group will be launching several new products and service initiatives to take advantage of these trends and strengthen further its leading position in this growing market.
