Southern Housing Group announces retirement of Group Chief Executive, Tom Dacey

Tom Dacey, Southern Housing Group's Chief Executive of 23 years, has announced that he is planning to retire in August of this year. The announcement follows a record year for the Group with ambitious plans well underway for building 2500 new homes across the south of England by 2020.

Tom Dacey said, "I have enjoyed my 47 years in the housing association sector, and had the good fortune to work for some exceptional organisations, not least my current employer. It has been a privilege and an honour to lead the Group for 23 years and I have every confidence that I am leaving it in good hands and in great shape. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to the success of the Group. As with all accomplishments it's about teamwork and dedication and I've been fortunate to witness some great examples of both over the years. I will continue to take an active interest in the Group and the sector and keep busy with non-executive roles in the housing sector."

Arthur Merchant, Chair of the Group's Board said, "Tom has been an exceptional chief executive and he will be greatly missed by colleagues and the Group's Board and Committee members alike. Tom's contribution to the sector and the success of the Group is enormous and we wish him a long and happy retirement."

The Group is underway with the exercise of its formal succession plan and Tom Dacey will continue in post until a successor is appointed. The plan is to have made that appointment by the end of August this year.
