WITHDRAWAL OF CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT

Further to the cautionary announcement of 18 January 2001 the board of
directors of Northam hereby announce that Northam has not been successful in
initiating discussions with Aquarius Platinum Limited ("Aquarius") concerning
Kroondal Platinum Mines Limited ("KPM").

Whilst Northam remains interested in KPM and would welcome the opportunity to
engage Aquarius in discussions in the future, Northam will not be proceeding
to a firm offer at this stage. Accordingly,shareholders of Northam are no
longer required to exercise caution in their share dealings.
