Sarantel Group PLC 31 August 2005 For immediate release 31 August 2005 New Globalsat GPS Receiver with Sarantel Antenna Instantly GPS-enables Business and Consumer PDAs * New receiver turns PDAs and smartphones into GPS navigators * Lightweight & ideal for high performance GPS on the move * Built-in storage allows for large maps, so users can locate places of interest and their way about town Sarantel Group plc ("Sarantel"), the leading manufacturer of revolutionary filtering antennas for wireless devices, announces today that Globalsat Technology Corporation of Taiwan has chosen Sarantel's GeoHelix(R) global positioning satellite (GPS) antenna for its exciting multi-purpose SD-502 SDIO GPS receiver. When inserted into the SD (secure data) slot of a PDA or a smartphone, Globalsat's new receiver provides the device with instant navigational capabilities and high performance GPS on the move. By allowing the SD-502 receiver to pick up GPS signals, the Sarantel GPS antenna allows users to turn their PDAs and smartphones into GPS navigators. The SD-502's 512MB built-in memory gives applications plenty of internal storage for large maps so users can locate places of interest, i.e., restaurants, pubs, clubs, museums, etc., and find their way about town. Extremely lightweight and ideal for users who require high performance GPS on the move, the SD-502 can be used in a range of navigational and recreational applications. Globalsat's manufacturing technology combined with Sarantel's GPS antenna and SiRFStarIIITM chipset, gives the SD-502 higher sensitivity, lower power usage and more rapid time-to-fix. The Sarantel antenna's small size and form factor contribute to the SD-502's attractive design without compromising its performance. While conventional antennas require the device to be held at a particular angle or use awkward hinging mechanisms, Sarantel's GPS antennas work well regardless of how they are oriented. Prince Chang, President & CEO of Globalsat says: "Sarantel's GeoHelix GPS antenna is the best GPS antenna for our SD card application. Its high sensitivity and omni-directional reception make it ideal for use in hand-held consumer products." Joe Murray, Sarantel's Asia/Pacific President, adds: "Our partnership with Globalsat takes a new turn with this latest design win. Globalsat's new version GPS SDIO card is another example of how Sarantel helps its customers make GPS products more consumer-friendly." David Wither, CEO at Sarantel said: "The consumer market is hungry for recreational GPS applications that are dependable, work in less than favourable environments and enable new experiences. The SD-502 is a great product that immediately enables GPS functionality on PDAs and smartphones. Sarantel is delighted to once again work with Globalsat on a very cool product." Sarantel's success with Globalsat was supported by SPK Electronics Co., Sarantel's business partner in Taiwan since 2003. -ends- For further information please contact: Sarantel Group PLC www.sarantel.com David Wither, CEO/Sitkow Yeung, CFO 01933 670560 Smithfield 020 7360 4900 Sara Musgrave/Sarah Richardson Pictures are available for the media to view and download from www.vismedia.co.uk About Sarantel Sarantel designs, manufactures and sells patented, ceramic, filtering antennas for use in portable wireless devices such as PDAs, laptops and 3G mobile devices. Its current focus is on producing antennas for the GPS market which allow a clearer signal than conventional antennas whilst reducing the amount of energy absorbed by the head by approximately 90 per cent. The antennas simplify system design, thus allowing design standardisation and reduced time to market and cost for manufacturers. As well as GPS, Sarantel's antennas are designed to service Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth platforms which are expected to be a key element in the future success of mobile network operators and device manufacturers. Sarantel's antennas can significantly increase the range and effective bandwidth of Wi-Fi devices and Sarantel is planning to commence high volume delivery of its antennas into the satellite radio market within the next 12 months.
