Guys, thank you for your honest and heartbfelt posts.
I am not in the same boat as you. But, I am, so to speak, sat waiting on the dock waiting to know if I have to get on board or not. Recent scan found something. Consultant requests new scan and ultrasound on monday/tuesaday. Canceled flight to spain today. I am absolutely bricking it. Trying so hard to hold it together. For SWIMBO and for the the boys. Been living with my dad with cancer for a while now but this is just unbearable.

It is nice to know there are people I can vent to, if required.

Thank you and good luck.

Si.

Flick, great to hear everything has gone well, its given Sandra great hope that all will be ok in the end. We was back at hospital this morning to check on some other cyst type things in the womb, and doc.is 99.9% sure all is ok and the are just fybroid type lumps. Sandra is worrying that any small lump is further spreading of cancer, but is getting more and more reassured. It is nerve wracking and hopefully after Fridays meeting with the surgeon we should know the results following the operation. Everything else seems to chug along in the house as normal, aprt from daily visits from the nurse and bag emptying all seems normal. sandras sisters have both gone for scans to be on the safe side, the nhs wouldnt do em, so they went private. I have cut right back on smoking and Sandra has given up totally, and she is enjoying a guiness at evening time to build her iron intake up. So far so good.

HH, I think Colin shined a tad on you today ;;-)

Thx wig...

It was sad news for us, and I just didn't want to burden you guy's with the tale, when both Sandra and Mrs Flick are being so brave and doing so well.

Colin was my Dads life long best friend, known him since I was a bairn. He was sadly diagnosed a little too late to help...

As always with Colin, never wanting to make a fuss, he slipped away during the quiet of last Wednesday night..

He's now gone to meet his wife Shirley, who will be waiting for him with open arms. Will be about five years since they've seen each other, and together again they can now rest side by side in eternal peace.

Wig - I am so glad that the ct scan showed no spreading of the cancer. Hopefully with modern medicine all will be well and you are both in my thoughts.

Off topic (illness not cancer so I hope you don't mind me sharing on your thread), my younger sister who is around 23 weeks pregnant with twins has just found out like a bolt from the blue that she has twin to twin syndrome, she has been faced with the most awful decisions to make. It is times like this that you realise just how fragile we all are, as if we need a reminder of what is important in life, I'm sure many would give up every penny they ever made in the markets just to have the health of a loved one.

Best of luck to you mate.

Just back from the hospital after 11hour stint, the operation went fine with no problems and Sandra is in great spirits albeit was quite a stressful day for her with the with the waiting around etc.

The best news was an all clear on the full body ct scan which came back with no indication of the cancer spreading to any other areas.

At least she has now taken her first steps on the road to recovery, and I am one proud man having such a brave wife.

best wishes once again for tommorrow Flick.

rp., enjoy your break, and I hope not to hear from you for the whole 3 weeks, but somehow I doubt you will totally switch off. The weather is a steady 20 degrees, was a bit of rain over the weekend, but forecast is pretty good. If you have a car hire and fancy travelling up to my neck of the woods, there is a great little restaurant called the O Alagar, only opened a few months ago ( Im sure just to relieve me of my hard earned) but with food and a wine cellar that Im sure will bring a smile to your face. It is on the road from Bouliqueme to Paderne, a little village called Cerca Velha. Enjoy!

Flick,

Thanks for being so thorough and thoughtful in your post. We are getting along pretty much as normal at the moment ( although normal is not a usual description for our household)lol!

Sandra is being treated at the Luton & Dunstable hospital they have their own specialist cancer unit and we have access to a Macmillan nurse whom has explained the process. However, they seem a bit wary of overloading you with to much information and that frustrates me, although I suppose they want you to take one step at a time, also I assume that after the masectomy they will look at the cancer then decide which further treatment is required. The type is the Invasive Lobular primary type, the doc.didnt give an option for any chemo prior to surgery and we assumed/knew it was at a serious stage and had no hesitation in agreeing to whatever was required to get rid. Some of the lymph nodes have to be removed also, not sure how many, the nurse reckons there are about 100 or so under the armpit and these link up all round the body to fight infections etc., anyway, after the doc. confirmed what we feared he suggested a scan of the left side ( which Im happy to say has come back clear) and a full body CT scan which was done last Thursday. we havent had any results from Thursday back yet, but it was a precautionary measure and am hoping that the cancer is contained.

The doc. has told us the reconstruction side will come after the chemo/rads, sometimes they can do it at the same time but apparently the rads affects any implants/surgery. Our hospital links up with the Royal Free Hospital of whom there is some great surgeons specialising in the reconstruction side, in fact one of the surgeons was in this article.........

so I am feeling pretty confident that Sandra will get the best treatment possible. Im not slow in coming forward, and if I want answers I can be a tad tiresome in obtaining them lol!

The emotional side is one I think is going to be the hardest to deal with, I can't begin to understand how Sandra is going to feel once the surgery is done and the affect it will have on her initially. She is not overly dressy or vain so to speak, and is as happy in an old raincoat and wellies as she is in an evening dress, but I know she is concious of her apperance as any women would be. All I think I can do is be as supportive as possible and give her the reassurances she needs. I've probably got it all wrong, and it will be me who falls to pieces and her looking after me lol!

Anyhow, she has booked the hairdresser and beauty girl for tommorrow, and is busy on the laptop atm browsing wigs and different girly stuff.

Flick, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife for Friday, I hope the recon goes great and a speedy recovery ensues, I totally agree with your new found lifestyle, we have both agreed once this is done to make a real effort to appreciate the small things in life that together make up the bigger picture.

Take care, and thankyou from both of us ;;-)

There's a true story about a guy who was given a week to live. He checked out of the hospital and checked into the hotel over the road. He asked the porter to rent all the comedy videos he could find and watched them for a whole week. At the end of the week he went back to the hospital and the doctors said "we don't know how it happened but you're completely cured". Last time I heard he was still alive and flying his own plane.

I believe I can fly....I believe I can touch the sky...

God bless you, wigs; sorry we won't get to see you on Algarve this year. Leave on Sat for 3 weeks.

Keep smiling and belly laughing, mate!
