17/8/2007 18:39 | Scribbler..thanks for your kind wishes ref my old man. I told him about mobiles but apparently the hospital he is in, is still in the dark ages and are not keen on mobile use. Obviously the 21st century has yet to reach the darkest corners of Devon. They might catch up one day...but not soon! Thanks again...interesting day. | palwing
17/8/2007 14:43 | So would I - but if you were long-stay how do you feel about £1,095 a year? Surely TVs are traditionally provided as patient comforts by the League of Friends? Plenty of ways to avoid trip hazard of cabling - up to and including the one used by PTL. I have always thought that the TV price was not the obvious rip-off; and I don't think people would fuss at 10p/min for the phone. But 49p/min to call your sick relative plus another 49p just to reach him is extortionate. | scribbler101
17/8/2007 13:38 | Nurses tripping over the cables apparently, not that any have it's just incase they do! If I was in that place i'd gladly pay the £3 a day for a telly. | debaleb
17/8/2007 13:36 | deb - what you describe is ludicrous, but complain to the jobsworths not to PTL-bashers. Surely provision of mental stimulation is a necessary part of treatment for stroke patients, so TVs should be provided free of charge. What is the alleged safety risk? | scribbler101
17/8/2007 13:32 | I know a man who still runs his business on an Amstrad 1512! He has several more as back-ups! As to keeping in touch with Dad - give him a mobile and send the cost of calling via Ptl directly to me? | scribbler101
17/8/2007 10:48 | Palwing - I suppose the fact that they think it worth doing the op is promising! Important you phone him several times a day. Best wishes. Why do you say the equipment is outdated/obsolete? How old is it? I should think they have enough volume for spares too not be a problem - what breaks anyway? If by "positive cash flow" they mean positive after interest and just before depreciation, that is very promising. Indeed they are not insolvent! I like this bit: "Revenues in the first four months of this financial year to 27th July are 21% below the same period last year due partly to adverse publicity surrounding an increase in outgoing telephone charges in April 2007. This increase was reversed earlier in August 2007." But I somehow suspect that the adverse publicity was not entirely reversed. RNS Number:2487C Patientline PLC 17 August 2007 Patientline Plc 17th August 2007 Interim Management Statement Patientline Plc which holds its AGM on 27th September 2007, announces its first Interim Management Statement in respect of the period from 1st April 2007 to 17th August 2007. The Board is continuing to work to the strategy set out in the preliminary results announcement on 25th June 2007. Finding a resolution to the level of debt in the Company remains a priority for this financial year. The Board has concluded that sales of assets to NHS Trusts or to the Department of Health are unlikely to result in material reductions to the Company's bank debt. Other ideas for the reconstruction of this debt are being explored. Revenues in the first four months of this financial year to 27th July are 21% below the same period last year due partly to adverse publicity surrounding an increase in outgoing telephone charges in April 2007. This increase was reversed earlier in August 2007. Revenue Per Terminal Per Day 2007 (4 months) 2006 (4 months) Bedside #0.71 #0.75 Friends & Family #0.61 #0.88 The Board is continuing to work to reduce the cost base of the business. The Board remains confident that these cost savings and the sales initiatives will result in positive cash flow for the year. | scribbler101
17/8/2007 10:34 | On the basis of the sudden 30% rise in the SP, I reckon if I continue to make calls into my old man, you guys could be on to a winner. Can I have a cut? | palwing
17/8/2007 10:19 | There you go..see how it jumped! DOH! | palwing
17/8/2007 08:01 | Scribbler...LOL Quadruple heart bypass op at 77..fairly serious? I am keeping an eye on PTL for a potential turn around of fortunes. However, I can't see where they go from here. The equipment seems outdated and must be almost obsolete with regard to spares, etc. Replacement would be costly and they aren't doing too well with what they have already, let alone create even more debt by investing in new technology! Mobile phones are becoming more and more common in hospitals too, so they aren't likely to win the phone cost debate. On the plus side, they have a captive audience and the infrastructure is in place. I think they need to try and diversify and utilise their equipment in some other way within the NHS. Talk of using the eqt for bedside patient records, etc seems to have disappeared, but could be one idea. Must be other money making ideas surely for PTL stuff surely? Anyone? At the moment, PTL seems to be one of the safe havens for Stock market money, as it isn't being decimated every minute. Must give some hope that it's a survivor? Good luck all..now off to call my old man...there's another £5+ gone! Watch the share price shoot up now? | palwing
17/8/2007 07:19 | A remarkabley confident outlook posted by PTL today. If it's not misplaced, this could really find some traction. | pbracken
16/8/2007 22:01 | palwing Hope old man not too serious. Best you keep his spirits up by calling him several times a day. | scribbler101
16/8/2007 21:02 | PTL holding up well consdidering the mayhem all around! Actually, just phoned my old man in hospital and spent 5 mins filling PTL's coffers at 39p/minute. Not impressed with the 1 minute recording BEFORE you get through tho..that's NOT nice. Good luck all.... | palwing
16/8/2007 17:06 | Where they gonna run to? They are getting all the cash it can generate, and the chance of anyone buying it out for more than that is worth to them must be tiny. Cui bono? | scribbler101
16/8/2007 09:52 | - you done well! but there might be a chance of the bank running scared in the current climate.... | richardbees
16/8/2007 00:44 | Half a fraction under 1p; other half 1.15p Ave just under 1.1 inc costs. Now if they can just get back to 10p.... | scribbler101
15/8/2007 21:29 | what did you buy at, scrib? | richardbees
15/8/2007 17:07 | Listed price dropped, but all the actual trades were at 1.8p. | scribbler101
09/8/2007 12:53 | I should think I could shift them for a gain now, but want more! | scribbler101
09/8/2007 09:52 | I suspect your biggest problem would be the spread should you decide to take your profits....other than you, not sure how many people would have a home for half a million PTL shares... | jockblue
09/8/2007 00:21 | More "anal output" or "breast". But it is certainly not blind ignorance. It is a calculated risk. I certainly could lose all, but judge that there is a good enough chance of making a 100-1000% gain to take that risk with an amount I can afford to lose. My best ever investment (by far, never likely to be repeated) was Corus at 4p. This is NOT the same. Corus was not bust. PTL certainly is. I worked out that EVEN ON A BREAKUP Corus was worth several times 4p. And sold out at 121p (actually 605, but consolidated 5x). the gain was much greater adjusted foir a rights issue in the middle. Chances like that are VERY rare. PTL seems to me a tolerable approach. There is good reason for the debt holders to be reasonable. And, unlike Marconi, little risk of the regulators disenfranchising shareholders. | scribbler101
08/8/2007 22:45 | scribbler .. ..good luck! your investment philosophy here can be summed up as: 'head' or 'tail' ? | richardbees
08/8/2007 17:39 | Blott - just below 1p for 250k; just over for the other 250k. I feel tempted to buy same again - never had a million of one share! | scribbler101 |
