The Moyle Interconnector returned to full availability on an interim basis from 0600 on 28/01/2016.

The initial focus of the Moyle Return Cables project has been to restore the availability of the out of service North cable ("pole 2") so that the interconnector can return to its full capacity. As of lunchtime on Friday 22/01/2016 pole 2 has been back in service and carrying the Moyle commercial load, with pole 1 held in reserve in case of any issues. Since no significant issues have been identified we are now making Moyle available to the market at full capacity from the start of SEM trading day 28/01/2016.

The new cable is contractually undergoing its one month reliability run and consequently the additional capacity will all be made available in daily auctions for the rest of January and the whole of February (an additional 200MW GB-NI and 45MW NI-GB).

The replacement South cable ("Pole 1") has already been laid and protection work is well advanced. Final protection work and cable jointing is scheduled to take place during the spring and summer months. Some availability reductions will be required for that work.
