No - not why they are down. This is old news and wasn't the profit figure - before exceptionals etc - actually up?

A non exec director (Ubben-?)just bought 11m shares - increasing stake to 14.4%. Hardly an indication of doom.

I am buying at 225-ish.

Misys annual profits plummet
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Misys, the UK banking-to-healthcare software group, reported a 42 pct fall in annual profits but said its turnaround strategy remained on track and its core banking market remained steady.

Misys, whose software is used by all of the world's top 50 banks and by more than 110,000 doctors, said pretax profit for the year to May 31 was 22.1 mln stg from 38.5 mln, due mainly to restructuring costs and other exceptional items.

Revenue rose 1 pct to 554 mln stg.

I think the statement "giving its products away for free" is misleading. As well as saying its a gamble.

Also, 'open source' is not necessarily the same as 'free'.

Anyway, I suspect Misys are just going to let other s/w developers have access to Misys code when developing their own products. The latter's products can then be made capable of interfacing with Misys products. It makes both Misys and the other party's applications more attractive to the customers. Means customer can benefit from a composite of applications froim different providers rather than tie themselves to one provider or the other. Can leverage legacy applications when subsequently bbuying new ones to work with them.

Meanwhile, Misys customers will no doubt still have to pay licence fees to use Misys products.

Bigger companies than Misys apparently have already adopted this approach ('service oriented architecture', etc.). I think iSOFT also recently said this was the way forward. From what I read, Misys is simply following a trend based on good business.

So not sure the Telegraph article was as clear as it could have been

Anyone disagree?

British software group Misys is expected to announce a major strategic gamble this week - giving its products away for free.

Sale of Sesame.

"The proceeds from this transaction will be used to reduce Misys' gross
borrowings. As a result of the transfer of cash balances in Sesame, Misys' net
borrowings are expected to increase by approximately £20m."

So they will owe less in total but have a larger overdraft/current borrowings???

I am having difficulty getting my head round this!
To me it implies that they must be receiving £75M cash for selling a subsidiary complete with with £95M cash and near cash, presumably offset by a large amount of deferred debt and the ca. £30M balance sheet write-off.

Is that a correct interpretation?

Yes all is lost. I can believe that in 3-4 years time a recovery will be on the cards but no one is going to wait that long. It will be a long and tedious wait with a slow decline in the share price unless there is a takever approach. Much too dull in my opinion.

Be very afraid.

The Mighty 'Investor's Chronicle' has advised readers to sell at current share price. In fact, they state that they had already advised selling these even when lower at 212p.

Surely all is lost.
