bsg - no way! they won't get it away at that price given lots of investors paid 1p and 0.74p. 1p is fair imo. Looks interesting, as always. This time next year, we will all be millionaires...maybe not!

onespot - either that or there are some seriously deranged investors out there, who may come to regret their folly and seek solice on a BB somewhere with other like-minded simpletons.

Anyone know of such a place?

New Mining Chief Wants To Make Philippines Top Mineral Producer By 2010

July 28, 2007 9:04 a.m. EST

Windsor Genova - AHN
Manila, Philippines (AHN) - A former Philippines senator appointed to head a state-run mining corporation has begun his task of making the country the world's top mining country by 2010. He plans to do this by offering 65 idle mining sites to investors.

Herherson T. Alvarez was appointed as the chairman of the Philippine Mining Development Corp. by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on July 18. He said that he will encourage investors to develop 65 non-performing and cancelled mining tenements covering 168,031 acres, local newspapers reported.

The chair of the PMDC is now under the Office of the President. Alvarez was quoted by Manila Standard Today as saying that he "will push for sustainable development in the mining sector, responsible mining, strict enforcement of environmental and mining laws, protection of indigenous peoples and sharing of benefits for all stakeholders."

The Philippines has the world's fifth biggest mineral deposits. The country has mining investments worth more than $500 million to date.

According to the inquirer.net, among the biggest mining investors are Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp., $100 million, Oceana Gold Ltd. of New Zealand and Climax Arino Mining Co. of Australia, $100 million, and Coral Bay Nickel Corp., $100 million.

All quiet tonight. It appears that Mincorp has an authorised share capital of 1bn shares and an issued share capital of less than 400m shares. They can therefore issue the shares, but not on a pre-emptive basis. This means a placing cannot easily be offered to certain investors without being issued to other investors. That is a problem if they need to raise some cash for the rights issue. However, given ATPK is a rights issue they can always sell their rights nil paid if the mechanics are same as in the UK. Given the premium over the rights price that would be fairly lucrative.

the good thing about that 0.74p lot is that it was, as far as i can ascertain, quality investors/holders from the CSFB camp. If it had gone to, say, City Equities again i'd be more inclined to think that we'd have a lot of loose stock out there...

still below most peoples radar - the trades in the last week are most likely not from private investors. I'm sure news will get leaked soon.
