RNS Number:7157H Marakand Minerals Limited 24 January 2005 Marakand stepping up exploration of priority targets in Uzbekistan Marakand Minerals Limited ("Marakand") is pleased to announce that it is entering into a detailed stage of exploration at its priority exploration targets surrounding the Khandiza Deposit in south east Uzbekistan. This includes a defined work program for Yakkabag Ridge, where detailed exploration and drilling will commence in Q1 2005. Thirty-four prospective targets in three areas, (see table below), have been identified in a similar geological setting to Marakand's already well-explored Khandiza Deposit. Khandiza is recognised as a 'classic' volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit, with JORC classified reserves and resources of 14.4 million tonnes at an average grade of 7.24% zinc, 3.50% lead, 0.86% copper, 134 g/t silver and 0.38 g/t gold. Target area Volcanic Centres Massive sulphide occurrences / geochemical anomalies -------------- ----------------------- ------------------ Chornova-Vakhshivar 3 - (Chornova, Khandiza Deposit plus 14 others Vakhshivar West and East) Yakkabag Ridge 3 - (West Yakkabag, 11 Sulukul and Kuldara) Karasan-Sangar dak 2 - (Karasan and 9 -------------- Sangardak) ------------------ ----------------------- Total 8 35 -------------- ----------------------- ------------------ Following satellite image interpretation and ground mapping, Marakand has sampled three zones of outcropping mineralisation at Sulukul on the Yakkabag Ridge, where assays of massive sulphide samples average 19.6% zinc, 3.2% lead and 0.9% copper. Samples of oxidised mineralisation in two of the zones assay on average 6.0% lead and 241 g/t silver. Ends.
