               Appointment of Independent Non-Executive Director

Melrose Resources plc (LSE: MRS), the oil and gas exploration, development and
production company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr James Douglas
Agnew as an independent non-executive director with immediate effect.

Mr Agnew, 48, is currently Chairman of UK Corporate Broking at Deutsche Bank. He
joined Deutsche Bank in 2002 having previously been Head of Corporate Broking at
Merrill Lynch from 1995 to 2002. Prior to that he was a Director of Corporate
Broking at Smith New Court from 1990 to 1995 and at CCF Laurence Prust. He is a
member of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers, the UKLA Advisory Committee and
the London Stock Exchange Primary Markets Group.

Robert Adair, Executive Chairman, commented:

"James's appointment to the Melrose Board reflects our ambitious plans for the
future development of the Company. James has a considerable depth of experience
working with publicly listed companies and we will benefit significantly from
his corporate insight as we move forward. I look forward to working with him
