Brulot.
A significant market correction is taking place right now.
Seems that no other bidders exist.

I am still confident of a bid unless there is a significant market correction. What I have found interesting is the lack of any other potential suitors,cagey game so far.

Hello Peter119, just checked in and saw your message.
I am ok thanks, and trust the same is true with you. You were right to sell out when you did. The price went down quite a bit. Well done.

I hope what you have just said will happen. However, my hopes have sometimes been dashed in the past.
We'll see.
Cheers and all the best.

Same scenario as yesterday, late uplift in share price
Patience, all good things come to those who wait.

Plenty of time before the deadline,cards will be played late to avoid a bidding war.

Big run up on high volume, must be almost 10m shares in the last hour ... we'll just have to wait and see, again! Hard to believe that no talks are going on behind the scenes though. Seems that no-one wants to be not holding overnight, which is usually when any announcement would be made.

Just seen on Bloomberg. CVC has bought a chemical company for 1.52billion euros. Missed the name, but it is small compared to buying a giant like ICI. Shows that private equity is still active in this arena.
Akzo must be thinking hard and working out the figures as to whether it is worthwhile for it to put in a higher bid.
Risks for a downside is strong, but it doesn't mean there is no other bidder.

Remember Corus after an agreed bid for it by TATA. The Brazilian giant only came in later and TATA had to pay more than £6 instead of the agreed £4.55, and Corus was a high cost steel producer.

gm all
sold a while back at 6.41 and 6.24,the problem about a higher bid is at $2.00 to the £,its making ici expensive for foreign company's fear this could test 5.00 if akzo pull out,as i have said all along that basf would not make an approach,to risky to buy at mo,good luck to all that hold.

Surely if Azco "shut up" and walk away then 600p is the bid premium and not the mkt price circa 540 that people value present day? I may be wrong, but in the past when bids have been rejected two things can happen. Another predator arrives on the scene (although rivals appear to suggest 650+ is expensive at this point in the economic cycle) or the price reverts back to pre-bid price with a small premium?? I am also v. long but am trying to see the wood from the trees. I believe the risk:reward has swung back to risk now the bid euphoria has died down and 09/08 has focused peoples minds more?

In todays Times it suggests that Azco do not have the backing of their major institutional holders to offer much more than 600p. We can hope. Regards UK

If you believe the speculation then Azco will come back with a higher offer:
1) they seem to have the support of their major shareholders to do so;
2) if they don't, there is speculation they may be in play themselves with Private Equity picking them up at an attractive valuation and doing the consilidation play themselves. I have some sympathy with this. I'm in the Private Equity arena indirectly myself, and it does look like an interesting opportunity for them;
3) on a personal level, I think mgmt. of Azco would look rather ineffective if they do nothing, having let the genie out of the box - it looks as though they tried Plan A (£6.00 per share) and don't have a plan B.

Anyway notwithstanding the pressure on the old ticker, I picked up some more at £6.13 yesterday. Downside is 13p (with stop losses) and upside is 50-75p in my view, so as long as the odds of them coming back are more than 25%, which I'm confident they are for reasons above, then it looks like a good bet .... errrmmmm "investment".

Good luck to all

Quite, rcoates. Very hair raising indeed, not for the faint hearted. If Akzo walks away, then I am stuck with ICI and just have to wait for a long time.
Either the share price will rise after that because it is doing very well on its own, or another bidder will appear.
I am resigned to expect the worst so I won't be disappointed.

Hairy stuff indeed, sitting on a fair few but with stop-loss at £6.00 ... a key, deal specific, level of support. Watched it hurtling down towards that level ... only to snap back! Best not to watch this one on an hourly basis ... bad for the heart.

Sold a third of my holding a while back at £6.35 but bought some back at between 6.18 and 6.13. Downside seems so much less than upside to me.
